Every Girl Dreams of Feathers

 

Ever since our mum dropped us off at that first ballet class at 5 years old, we learnt that it  is every girl's dream to dance Swan Lake. And indeed it is still some of the shopgirls' dream.

And as we sat in the Sadler Well's Theatre staring lost into Mathew Bourne's rendition we couldn't help but be amazed and inspired by the boys taking on the role.

 

It also left us feeling a bit jealous and like we needed to claim back our right to feathers, tiaras and everything intensely girly, to make up for the fact that we won't ever move as gracefully as those boys. Good news is we have 3 floors worth of the cure.

We suggest going to see this beautiful ballet if you find yourself in London in the next month. It's an amazingly inspirational way to kick off 2014. And if it leaves you feeling the same as us, come over for an injection of tulle and pink!

We Want To Be Famous in Japan

We were very pleased to find a copy of 'Fairground', the new book by Nao Koyabu, arrive on our desk the other day. She translate vintage for the modern woman so well with a nostalgic yet aloof vibe.

We are hoping the featured One Vintage pieces will make us famous in Japan?

Wellbeing Event

 On the 26th of June we had a well-being event at D&Me for a night of fashion, nutrition and fitness. Attending we had special guests fitness expert Jo Manoukian and nutritionist Amelia Freer. It was a successful and fun night filled with cocktails, sushi and delicious macroons. Here are a few pictures from the evening

Peruvian Dreams

 






Back in March, French Vogue came out with an issue centred around special guest Mario Testino's homeland - Peru. 

The photographer has now collaborated with Net-a-Porter to create a collection based on his native country. We were honored and inspired when Marcelle was asked to create a series of pieces for this collection. Launching today it was our surprise to find that as of now there is only one piece left! .

Crazy for Cupcakes

Here at D&ME, we can't seem to get enough of cupcakes. We were pleasantly surprised when one of our amazing customers brought in some from Lola's for everyone to enjoy the other day!

We're also conveniently near a Hummingbird's Bakery. Forget getting fit for summer, we're too excited by their monthly specials - sticky toffee pudding and lemon meringue cupcakes!

Flower Power

The Chelsea Flower Show ran until the 25th of May at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, D&ME's neighbour. This annual event, attended by the Royal Family (Prince Charles pictured below), remains England's most prestigious flower show since its conception in 1913. As usual, this year's show has provided a colourful spectacle of beautiful flowers of all shapes and sizes and if there is one thing we love at D&ME it's flowers!

Bells and Baubles: A D&Me Christmas

One of the most fun parts of Christmas is the parties, where you get to relax and enjoy the people you spend most of your time with.

What does a D&Me party look like you might ask. It was a fantastic evening with Marcelle's legendary cooking. When asked she said "when it comes to my cooking more is more" and that's the way we like it.

 

Not only was the food gorgeous but it was served in the cutest silverware ever.

And the two stars of the night looking every bit the part: Marcelle the hostess with the mostess and Noriko the amazing seamstress/caroller for the evening.

We Wear What We Do

Last weekend Marcelle went to Marrakesh for the wedding of all our dreams and took with her some of her own creations to dazzle the guests.

 The girls all looked stunning in the various D&M looks.

And then They appeared in front of Marcelle. These amazing 8 foot tall orchid peacocks nearly brought us to tears (of happiness). All Marcelle could do after the sightings was figure out how they could fit on the plane.

If that's not got you trying to DIY this yet, have a look at the wall filled with thousands of white roses. That is definitely going on our wish list. 

Just to keep in theme the ceremony took place with a gorgeous backdrop of white orchids. And of course the only thing more beautiful than the magical setting was the blushing bride.

Puppy Love

We welcome the latest addition to the D&Me team: Chilli. Our new chocolate furry ball of happiness, looking the part in her chic pink boa.
